Rethinking Fashion Design

Finally some fashion design with meaning. However it strangely comes from a non-fashion designer. It’s about time that fashion design started to get a little more “serious” rather than seasonal.

Fiona Carswell, a User Interface Engineer at Apple, developed the Malignant Mole Bikini, that when exposed to the sun, dark spots start to appear. It provides a poignant reminder about the long term effects of over exposure to harmful UV rays.

Her Smoking Jacket picks up exhaled cigarette smoke and gradually darkens to indicate the harmful effects of smoking.
I am always a strong proponent about visualizing intangibles in design, and its importance in information feedback for very tangible human beings. Nice work Fiona, very clever.
