This has to be the world’s most useless hook. This hook, I noticed on a tour bus, does not stick out far enough nor is it deep enough. Feels very much like an afterthought.
Agreed! thats a weird looking hook!
It could’ve been made to hold up bags or other belongings? Istead of leaving them on the floor, or on your lap. But that hook doesnt look like it can hold anything, its on an angle and a little dangerous….
On second thought, why do they need a handle there in the first place?
(so that the passengers could get a good grip of the seat infront, and shake back and forwards the crap out of the passenger in that seat?)
Or could be that the plastic handle was a off-the-shelf item sourced from a handle manufacturer. Maybe when it’s applied to other products, the hook might make sense. I don’t know.
This is likely the result of production and design being farmed out to several locations/design houses, paired with a lack of communication. whoeve designed the handle/hook may have only been given guidelines concearning size and mode of aplication and not that it was going to be mounted at an angle and next to a wall. This is unfortunate, but a reality we face in this fast moving world.
The hook shown in the pic is more of what i call to be ” not appropriate design”, seems that the designer tried to focus on more safety rather than also increasing the functional aspect of the hook. However, seems that he (designer) tried to express something which was supposed to be fuctional, went wrong. Possibly he had a more of ” MY BABY SYNDROME”.Not refining the idea of putting the clever hook.
This is one of those aspects products are not tested, before considering them to produce at a large scale.

February 23, 2009 at 3:38 pmPerhaps that hook was meant to accommodate suits/formal wear on a hanger.
– OR –
LOL maybe it was meant for plastic bags from grocery shopping.

January 13, 2009 at 3:51 pmMaybe this hook is for a seatbelt? – some kind of seatbelt position holder. I could be wrong.
