Our Kickstarter Industrial Design Picks for Week 27

We have three picks for you this week that hopefully epitomizes what we think are the coolest Industrial Design projects on Kickstarter. We hope you enjoy reading this article as much as we did selecting these projects!
If you are running a crowd funding program on Kickstarter or any other platform and would like to be considered on Design Sojourn, please drop us a message on our contact page

TAKTIK – Rugged Protection for your iPhone

Redefining Protection
Using protection isn’t always pretty. That’s why we’ve decided to inject our LUNATIK design DNA into protective cases. This is the DNA that fathered the TikTok+LunaTik and the LUNATIK Touch Pen. By obsessing over all the details that others neglect like fit, finish, details, feel, display integrity, robustness and aesthetics, we are raising the bar again. From the high sensitivity display protection of our Gorilla Glass Lens to our patent pending shockproof suspension system, we have gone above and beyond to transform the iPhone into a refined and rugged everyday warrior. We want people to be excited about using protection.

TAKTIK is Scott Wilson’s 3rd foray into KickStarter is a bold move into a very saturated market. However in typical MINIMAL fashion they have manage to create a differentiated proposition by their attention to the design and materials. Also by going on the Kickstarter platform they will have a much better chance of getting direct customer attention than if they would have to compete on the shelves at any Apple store. While it will likely not be every iPhone owner’s cup of tea (I like my iPhone cases as thin as possible), it is a great design nevertheless.

Clutch Lead Holder

Making Things Better.

The pencil is a powerful and incredible tool. It takes all of those ideas swirling around in our minds and makes them real. This tool is so vital that it deserves to be something more than the disposable and mass produced hunk of plastic that you typical find in stores.
That’s where Clutch comes in – it’s a beautifully crafted, simple, and elegant lead holder designed to feel natural in your hands and truly last.

I really like fat pens. Fat pens feel great in the hand and a comfort to draw with. What this product needs though is a nice leather cover or something to keep it from running all over the place. While I don’t use pencils much these days, I might just get one to accompany my Koor-I-Noor that is tucked away somewhere.

Smarter Stand for the iPad

Smarter Stand is composed of 2 clips that attach to either side of the Smart Cover or the Smart Case. For the Smart Cover, a polyurethane pad that sticks to the back side of the iPad is also provided to prevent the iPad from slipping. For the Smart Case, no pad is needed since the neoprene of the back cover provides the grip necessary.

There are tons of iPad accessories out there, but this Smarter Stand clip is probably the smartest. It is a great idea that was born from the frustration with the limited articulation of the iPad’s smart cover. I also like that design detail of the rounded corners on the clip that matches that on the cover.
