Stop the press!
Remember our last discussion on the Spaces for Ideas Brand? I had originally planned for the logo to be sophisticatedly debossed on the front of the cover. Unfortunately due to the limitations of the debossing tool, the process is unable to accommodate the subtle design of the Spaces for Ideas logo.
However I still wanted the logo to be there for two reasons, branding and usability. The logo is an important visual indicator of opening orientation of the sketchbook and thus central to the design of the sketchbook. Therefore I had no choice but to pay a little more and go for a silkscreen printing process.
The images here show samples from my recent Press Check, a production milestone where I approve the logo’s print quality, color and finish. Furthermore, due to my decision of going with the silkscreen process, I had to spend another round refining this logo. The logo’s width (65mm) was balanced against that of the sketchbook, while still maintaining readability and a sophisticated feel. I also decided on a Pantone O21C Orange color as it creates a really nice subtle optical illusion on the recycled craft paper cover.
I’m actually quite happy with the final result, as the silkscreen process also complimented the design intent of the logo.
